Our achievements
The responsibility of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is to provide reliable and up-to-date data for development planning and administrative activities of the country. BBS has been regularly collecting, compiling and publishing various data for the use of planners engaged in national and local planning, public and private research institutes, international organizations and the public. Recently National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and Statistics Act 2013 have been formulated. As a result the scope of work of BBS has been expanded. In view of this, the organizational structure of BBS has been redefined and work is underway to strengthen and rationalize it. Under Section 6 of the Statistics Act 2013, surveys have been completed in various census and socio-economic and demographic areas.
 
Among the updated reports already published are National Accounts Statistics Report 2017-18, Agricultural Statistics Yearbook-2017, Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2017, Labor Force Survey Bangladesh 2016-2017, Bangladesh Strategic Plan on Agriculture and Rural Statistics (2016-2030), Urban areas in Bangladesh, Report on the Opinion Survey on Power Supply 2016-2017 \45 Years of Agriculture Statistics on Major Crops (Aus, Aman, Boro, Jute and Wheat), Preliminary Report on Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2016(New), Analytical Report on Methodologies of Crops Estimation & Forecast and Private Stock of Food Grain Survey 2016-2017, An assessment on Coverage of Basic Social Services in Bangladesh (ECBSS 1st round), Report on CWS 2016, Investment from Remittance Income Survey 2016, Investment from Remittance (SIR) ) 2016, Bangladesh Disaster-related Statistics-2015 is one of them.
  
Apart from this, the production accounts of 126 crops are collected from the field level on a regular basis and estimated at the head office of BBS. Land and irrigation statistics are being collected and prepared from the field level. Every month price and wage statistics are collected from the field level and sent to the head office in Dhaka as a spreadsheet (soft copy) and hard copy through appropriate authorities. This information is used to calculate and publish the consumer price index and inflation.
 
Preparation work for Integrated Agriculture Census 2018 covering fisheries and livestock sectors is underway. Meanwhile, preparatory work for zonal operation, seminar programs, pretest activities, preparation of question papers in various districts related to agricultural census 2018 are going on. Weaving Census 2018 and Khana Census 2018 have been completed.
 
Vital Statistics of Bangladesh is published regularly on the basis of data collected through 11 types of schedules from 2,012 sample areas selected across the country under the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project.
 
In addition, regular publications of BBS such as Statistical Pocket Book, Statistical Year Book and Monthly Statistical Bulletin are published regularly.
 
In March-May 2013, the third economic census data collection program was completed in Bangladesh. A total of 66 reports have been published under the census, including 01 National Report, 01 Administrative Report and 64 Zilla Reports. Under the Economic Census 2013 project, the Business Register has taken up the preparation activities. It will be used as the main framework for preparing the country's economic statistics. The business registrar will contain information about each establishment's name, address, legal structure, type of operations, number of manpower employed, average annual production, total assets, etc.
 
On 15-19 March 2011, the country's fifth census and household census was held. 05 (five) national reports, 64 (sixty four) district reports and 64 community reports have been published under this census. Besides, 14 (fourteen) monographs and 01 (one) population projection reports have been prepared using the data of Census and Home Census 2011. Under this project, Redatam software and primary data of Census 2011 have been uploaded on the website of BBS through which users can prepare tables, graphs, charts etc. according to their needs.
